Federal and Georgia laws require companies to provide workers with secure and debris-free premises where employees can safely perform their tasks. An employer also has a duty of care to ensure that equipment, vehicles and construction sites have necessary safeguards to prevent accidents.
If a worksite presents a noticeable hazard, employers must warn workers of the risks of harm. Placing visible signs or orange cones around a potential threat can help avoid accidents and injuries.
Common on-the-job injuries
According to the National Safety Council, as many as 500 U.S. employees suffer on-the-job injuries every hour. Overexertion, such as caused by lifting heavy objects or repetitive motions, accounts for nearly 34% of workplace injuries.
Heavy objects that can fall or hit an employee may cause serious bodily harm. In certain cases, an employee could suffer from a traumatic brain injury. Serious head injuries can require long-term treatment and also include rehabilitation or physical therapy. A serious brain injury disability that resulted from an otherwise preventable workplace injury may require a legal action against a negligent employer.
